WALK MS STORIES
Why do YOU walk?
Members of the Colorado-Wyoming MS community have submitted their stories to share with you. We hope that reading about the courage, challenges, and optimism experienced by those whose lives are affected by MS will motivate you to register, volunteer or donate to Walk MS.
Read about Dick Raymond and learn why he and his family walk...
Last week, a physician friend of Dr. Raymond who practices in Nebraska notified Dick that his 23 year old son had just heard those awful three words: YOU HAVE MS. He just needed to know how a doctor dad responded to that news when his own daughter heard it three and a half years ago.
This Nebraska doctor is a top 100 fund raiser for Colorado Bike MS. He rides for his Sister who lives with MS but this time, MS got a little too close to him. Every hour someone living in the US hears; YOU HAVE MS. What a relief it would be if the next time someone heard those words, they also heard:
BUT THANKS TO DONORS FUNDING RESEARCH, WE NOW HAVE MEDICATIONS THAT WILL RESTORE WHAT YOU HAVE LOST AND PREVENT ANY FURTHER DAMAGE FROM BEING DONE.
There are lots of awful diseases out there. What makes MS especially bad is that it usually hits young adults. Dick feels a person could develop cancer, have a stroke, and be able to say they lived a pretty good life for 65 years. But Dr. Raymond’s daughter, Brooke, and the newly diagnosed son of his friend, wake up every morning and do a mini-neurological assessment to see if the disease has progressed. It is the fear of the unknown, of what lies ahead, that makes MS so frustrating.
Dick and Brooke’s Walk MS team, Brooke’s Believers, have passed the $7,000 dollar mark in funds raised, and that is great news! Brooke’s Believers offer gratitude to those who have contributed. But that is only 28% of their aggressive goal of raising $25,000 this year for research to STOP the progression, REVERSE the damage, and END this disease so no one else hears: YOU HAVE MS. Dick, Brooke and all their team members BELIEVE: MS kills nervous system connections. At WALK MS, we build connections. Our Connections will KILL MS.
